Petunia, running into my room: "Mama, what happened! Why are you whoo-hooing and screaming yes?"
(For the record, the Guv is out of town, else the whole situation might have been a bit more, umm, awkward.)
Mama: "Petunia, our government just passed the healthcare bill!"
Petunia: "The wha...?"
Mama: "Congress has just passed healthcare reform. Until now, not everyone in the country has been able to have health insurance, and some people have lost all of their money paying expensive medical bills, but now? Or, more like, soon? No one will lose their money and their homes and everything they have just because they're sick and have to pay so much money to have medical care to stay alive."
Petunia: "Sounds good."
Mama: "GOOD?! This is the biggest thing to happen in my entire lifetime, and it might be the biggest governmental action to happen in yours, too!"
Petunia: "Not exactly..."
Mama: "Seriously, I'll explain this in depth to you soon, but this is HUGE. Bigger than huge. BIG HUGE UNBELIEVABLY GINORMOUS."
Petunia: "Mama, I'm a kid. I'd kind of feel that way about an ice cream sundae right about now."
Mama (hanging her head): "Petunia, this is much bigger and better than any ice cream sundae you'll have any day of your life, even if you'd have one every day of your life."
Petunia: "That'd be great. And, like, whoa!"
Mama: "I know! WHOA!"
And with that, I'd like to thank the members of Congress who supported this revolutionary legislation. It's not perfect, but it's overdue. President Obama, it's part of the reason I voted for you.
Now... get to work on bettering public education, m'k? No rest for the weary!
